Biography

Simon joined the business school at the beginning of 2011 to work on SDO funded project "Being a manager, becoming a professional", led by Mike Bresnen. He previously worked as a research fellow at Nottingham University where he completed his PhD in the School of Education in 2008 before moving to the School of Sociology as a research fellow and then to the Business School as part of Nottingham's CLAHRC initiative.

Research Interests

Simon's research interests are in qualitative studies of public sector organisations, ethnography and the work of Michel Foucault. Since 2008 he has worked on several applied health research projects, focusing on issues around workforce development, professionalisation and organisational learning. His PhD was an ethnographic look at the production of psychiatric diagnoses through the discourses of early education, and he is currently seeking a book contract to publish the thesis in full. In addition to a growing record of academic publications, Simon is currently collaborating with a theatre group to produce a play out of the fieldnotes from an ethnographic study of NHS dementia care.
