Cookies

What is a cookie?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer by websites that you visit. They are widely used in order to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the owners of the site.

A cookie will typically contain details such as the domain from which the cookie has come from, a value which is usually a random unique number as an identifier and the lifetime (expiry) of the cookie.

There are 3 types of cookies used on this website:

  • Session Cookies: allowing us to "remember" content from page to page (these expire when you leave the website or close the browser)
  • Persistent Cookies: which define "Time To Live" and help us to determine your preferences (these will expire after the "Time To Live" period)
  • Third Party Cookies: these are cookies from any other domain, such as recommended product and advertising services.

Most web browsers allow some control of most cookies through the browser settings. To find out more about cookies, including how to see what cookies have been set and how to manage and delete them, visit www.allaboutcookies.org

What will a cookie do for me?

Almost every web site that offers advanced features such as online ordering and custom content utilises cookies. Our websites use cookies to present you with customized content, and continually review the site traffic, and change the website accordingly.

Each web site utilises unique cookies, which essentially means that the cookies used by one site cannot be used by another.

What if I do not accept cookies?

If you choose not to accept a cookie then the website may not work correctly. You may not be able to purchase any products online or contact us with any forms and it may be difficult to navigate to pages.

However, you may still contact us by letter or phone:

Why do Manchester Business School use cookies?

MBS wants to provide a good customer experience on the website and here's an example of how cookies can allow this to happen:

Content: Show you relevant content such as course recommends depending on your browser and navigational behaviour.

User Behaviour: Core metric analytics to track website visits and clicks for pages visited with hourly transaction volume. This allows us to see how our customers like to use our website and which pages or functions they prefer; this allows us to continually improve our service.

Third Party: Selected partner cookies which track where the users visit originated from. This allows us to see where their visit originated from, especially advertising on partner sites, present appropriate content and helps prevent fraud and detect spammers.

What is a Web Beacon?

Some third parties deploy a gif (also called tracked pixel /action tag) which is a web beacon and is a tiny graphic which acts as a unique identifier. This is invisible to you on the page.

Will this policy change?

Our business changes constantly and therefore our policies will need to change to reflect that. You should check our website frequently to see recent changes. Unless stated otherwise our Cookie Policy and Privacy Policy applies to all information that we have about you. We will never materially change our policies and practices to make them less protective of user information collected in the past without the consent of affected users.

Use of cookies by Manchester Business School

One of the cookies we use is essential for parts of the site to operate and has already been set. You may delete and block all cookies from this site, but parts of the site will not work.
