In which departments, faculties, or colleges may postgraduate exchange students attend classes and from which programme(s)?

Students on our international postgraduate exchange programme can select classes from most Masters programmes at Alliance MBS. Currently, these tend to be mostly from the MSc International Business & Management, but may be from any other programme. Programmes which are excluded are MSc Organisational/Managerial Psychology and MSc Management. Enrolment on courses is subject to availability and course unit leader (lecturer) approval.

What is the primary language of instruction at your institution? In what other languages are courses given?

Alliance Manchester Business School courses are taught exclusively in English. We expect all incoming exchange students to possess a very high standard of English. As a guidance, our language entry requirement for students on full-time programmes is 7.0 IELTS or 100 Internet-based TOEFL.

Are language courses offered to incoming exchange students, either at the beginning of the year or during the year?

There are no intensive language classes offered at Alliance MBS but students may take courses offered by the language centre. These courses would not count towards credits.

For further information on the University's English language support go to: http://www.ulc.manchester.ac.uk/

Do you use ECTS?

No. However our students are normally required to take 4 course units per semester, usually equalling 15 UK credits each.
1 UK credit = 0.5 ECTS credits
1 (15 credit) Alliance MBS course unit = 7.5 ECTS credits
For example, if the European partner institution requires 30 ECTS credits to be taken whilst on exchange, this is equivalent to 60 credits at Alliance MBS (4 x 15 credits course units).

How long does it take to obtain the degree?

One year for MSc International Business & Management.
Incoming exchange students spend one semester with us.

What are the academic year and semester dates?

Please visit http://www.manchester.ac.uk/discover/key-dates/ for up-to-date information.

Do you offer assistance with student housing?

Accommodation information is provided in your exchange application pack. The university accommodation office is able to allocate accommodation to students studying at Alliance MBS only from halls featured in the student accommodation booklet/website. An application form must be completed for accommodation and submitted as part of your application for exchange. If you wish to consider arranging your own private accommodation, Manchester Student Homes (MSH) may be able to assist you http://www.manchesterstudenthomes.com

Details of university halls of residence can be found at http://www.accommodation.manchester.ac.uk/

Do students require insurance to enter the country or attend your institution?

Students are responsible for making their own arrangements before starting the programme.

What are the student visa/permit requirements in order to study in your country as an exchange student?

To find out whether a visa is required, the immigration procedure, or your nearest Embassy or Consulate, please go to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website: http://www.fco.gov.uk or http://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/

As an exchange student you will only spend one semester with us. Our semesters last approximately 4.5 months. Therefore non-EU exchange students, or any student requiring immigration permission will (in most cases) need to apply for Student Visitor status (valid for up to 6 months).
