At Manchester our outstanding academic team blends global management knowledge with first-hand experience of international business. Our fusion of first class academia and applied learning is at the heart of Original Thinking Applied. This practical approach to learning is a proven formula for success for our students.

Our students learn how to do business in a realistic and demanding environment. This is a result of leading companies coming on campus to provide seminars and involve you in their projects. Successful business people play a major role in shaping and directing your work.

An original business school

Established in 1965, and jointly the UK's first business school, we have been perfecting our programmes for more than 40 years. Leading surveys, such as the FT Global MBA Rankings 2009, consistently place us as one of the top 10 business schools in Europe, and among the top 35 in the world.

We compete on a global scale for the best students and staff. We now have around 2,000 students on campus and an academic staff of almost 300. We also support more than 3,500 distance learning and external programmes. We are one of the few schools worldwide to gain the approval of all three MBA accrediting bodies.

The School is part of the prestigious University of Manchester with its 180-year record of academic excellence. It is the largest single site university in the UK, and one of the largest in Europe with over 35,000 students.

Research-led

The School excels in research as well as teaching. Those who write the text books teach our students. Full professors make up 25% of academic staff, and in the 2008 RAE (the UK government's rating of research quality) MBS was the UK's leading centre for business research. The FT Global MBA Rankings 2009 ranked our doctoral programme as the best in the world, and our accounting research team is ranked world no 1 by professional services publication Accounting and Finance.

Entrepreneurship

MBA students have the opportunity to work with MBS' own busines incubator during the programme. The School has now worked with 35 companies, starting on its first project in 2002. The University as a whole has generated more than 1,000 spin-out projects.

International outlook

The School and its MBA programme have a strong international emphasis. One third of our teaching and research staff are from outside the UK, coming from more than 40 countries, and reinforcing the global perspective of the Manchester MBA. Read more about our international outlook

Competitive advantage

We produce highly-skilled students and offer superb experience in meeting real business challenges. This explains why top global businesses, such as American Express, Balfour Beatty, Credit Suisse and Johnson and Johnson, choose to employ our MBA graduates.

Ninety-five per cent of our students found rewarding employment just three months after graduating, and the School is ranked 7th in the world and 2nd in the UK by the FT Global MBA Rankings 2009 for career progression. Research from Forbes shows that we are ranked 2nd in the UK and 3rd among all non-US schools in a survey of return-on-investment based on alumni salaries.

Our intensive 18-month MBA delivers the competitive edge, international experience and added value other shorter programmes simply cannot match.
