Professor
lands Leverhulme Major Fellowship
24th January 2007
Professor Jeffrey Henderson has been awarded a Leverhulme Fellowship, the only business school academic to receive the honour in 2007.
His research on 'China and the Future of the Developing World: danger and opportunity in a global-Asian era' will focus on the rise of China (together with India) as an economic and political 'driver' of the global economy and why it is likely to be one of the defining moments of world history.
The Leverhulme Trust was established in 1925 at the wish of William Hesketh Lever, the first Viscount Leverhulme, to make awards for the support of research and education. The Trust emphasises individuals and encompasses all subject areas.
Professor Henderson is Professor of International Economic Sociology in the Manchester Business School and in the Institute for Development Policy and Management, University of Manchester. He has taught previously at the Universities of Birmingham and Hong Kong and his books include The Globalisation of High Technology Production, Global Restructuring and Territorial Development (with Manuel Castells), States and Development in the Asian Pacific Rim (with Richard P. Appelbaum) and Industrial Transformation in Eastern Europe in the Light of the East Asian Experience.
As part of the process, Professor Henderson is keen to recruit one or more PhD students to work on topics related to his Fellowship research. Interested parties should contact him at jeffrey.henderson@mbs.ac.uk.
