Application FAQs

If you have a question that is not answered here please feel free to contact the Masters team.

1. Can I apply online?

Yes. Please visit our website at: www.manchester.ac.uk/degreeprogrammes/postgraduate/apply/. Here you can find further details of how to apply online.

2. I can't or don't want to apply online, how do I get an application form?

You can request a printed copy by emailing pg@mbs.ac.uk remembering to include your postal address, or telephone +44 (0) 161 306 1339.

3. Is there an application fee?

Some of our Masters programmes are free to apply, but a few require a £60 application fee.

4. Is there a deadline for applications?

We operate rolling admission and therefore have no deadlines for our courses. We accept new applications until a course is full. Some of our courses are very popular and we would advise applying as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. As places become limited we may have to impose a closing date, details of which will be posted on the website. We advise you to keep checking the website for updates.

5. Can I apply for more than one course?

It is possible to apply for more than one programme. If both programmes ask for an application fee you only have to pay one fee of £60.

6. What should I include with my application?

Application form.
Statement of purpose.
Academic credentials.
Two academic references.
English language test (if required)

7. Where should I send my application?

You should submit your application to The University of Manchester, to the address on the application form.

Postgraduate Recruitment and Admissions
The University of Manchester

Manchester
United Kingdom, M13 9PL

8. What do I do if my academic credentials are not from a UK institution?

Your certificates and transcripts must be official copies and they should show the official signature and/or stamp of the registrar or administrative officer of the institution. If your transcript and/or certificate are not in English, then you will need to attach an official certified English translation to the original document.

9. What do my referees have to do?

We will only consider recommendations submitted on your official university letterhead paper. See the supporting documents page for further information.

10. Is GMAT required?

GMAT is not a mandatory requirement of admission. If you have already taken the GMAT, then do submit it if you feel it will support your application.

11. How do I know if a language test score is required?

If English is not your first language and you have not studied a previous degree in an English speaking country, you are required to provide official evidence showing your level of proficiency. For information about the English tests we accept and the levels we require please see our English language requirements page.

12. Can I take a pre-sessional English course to bring my IELTS/TOEFL score up to the entry requirement standard?

If your English score is only slightly below our requirement, it is possible you could be offered a place on a pre-sessional English course to increase it.
Please contact the admissions office with details of your current test score for advice.

13. Can I apply before I have completed my degree or taken my IELTS test?

You can apply before you have completed your degree. You will need to include transcripts of your marks to date with your application. It is also possible for you to apply before you have taken the IELTS test, but we encourage students to have the results of these tests before making an application. Applications are unlikely to be considered without the results of these tests.

14. What happens to my application once it has been received?

Once we receive the application form at MBS, we will contact you to acknowledge your application and request any missing documents from you. At this stage, you will be assigned a seven-digit ID number that you must quote on all further correspondence.

15. How long does it take for a decision to be made on my application?

Once your application has been received by MBS and all of the required documents are included, we should be able to contact you with a decision within two weeks. We will not be able to make any decisions on applications that do not have all the required documents with them.

16. What happens if I am accepted onto my chosen course?

If you are offered a place on one of our Masters courses we will send a copy of your offer letter by email.
