Finance at MBS spans the theoretical and methodological foundations of finance, mainstream empirical research, and applied research of immediate business and policy relevance.

This research area is led by the Manchester Accounting and Finance Group.

Research themes include: asset pricing models, corporate finance, corporate governance, firm boundaries and contracting structures, financial derivatives, investment banking, credit risk modelling, market liquidity and microstructure, behavioural finance, analyst behaviour, financial econometrics, risk management, and public finance. The group’s research is regularly supported by external research grants from the ESRC, professional bodies and respected charitable research foundations.

The group maintains strong links with finance experts working in the City, and runs a lively research seminar series. It runs a specialist stream of the MBS doctoral program which is supported by ESRC and Marie Curie funding.
