Services design and management

The increased ability of information systems to underpin the efficient delivery of innovative services has created new and exciting opportunities for the field of Services Design Management. This field is in the centre of the world-class multidisciplinary activities pioneered by the Centre for Service Research at MBS. The Centre combines the expertise of all the service-related disciplines in Manchester Business School with business partnerships in order to develop a shared understanding of goals and opportunities for research, education, and practice. We emphasise multidisciplinary approaches to ICT-enabled business services, incorporating five areas of activity: service innovation, which is linked with the activities of the Manchester Institute of Innovations Research; service design and service information management, focusing on the optimal ICT-enabled analysis and design of service systems; service marketing, working with our colleagues in Marketing on the service consumer and retail perspectives; and service operations management, focusing on the effective and efficient control of complex service delivery networks. We publish in leading international journals and competitive academic conferences, and foster lively research culture valuing the contributions by every member of the team, especially our graduate students.

Our expertise in the field of Services Design Management attracts significant interest by external stakeholders, as evidenced by the substantial grant income for collaborative project with industry and government bodies. We are proud in grounding our research in real needs of society and industry, and always welcome enquiries for new collaborations.
