PREST/ Manchester Institute of Innovation Research
The Manchester Institute of Innovation Research
This year the ESRC centre for research in innovation and competition (CRIC) and the centre for science and technology policy and management research of Manchester Business School (PREST) will combine their expertise to form the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research.
Manchester has long been a leading international location for innovation and technology policy studies, and CRIC and PREST have both established reputations as centres of excellence in interdisciplinary, policy-relevant research in these areas. The new institute will aim to consolidate and build upon these reputations. A transition strategy will ensure that the value attached to these two brand names will be progressively transferred to the single institute brand.
The new institute will be at the heart of Manchester Business School's increasing strategic focus on all aspects of innovation across both the public and private sectors. PREST and CRIC have extensive relationships in industry and government in the UK, Europe and around the world, and the new centre will continue to shape the debates taking place in this complex field.
Professor Jeremy Howells, executive director of both centres said:
"The Manchester Institute of Innovation Research brings together two centres of research excellence. I am very proud to have been deeply involved in both centres over the years and believe that combining the strengths of the people that we have here provides us with a great opportunity to move forward and provide a real area of competitive advantage to MBS."
