Andrew McMeekin has been Senior Lecturer at MBS since 2007. For the decade prior to this he was Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow at the ESRC Centre for Research on Innovation and Competition (CRIC). Before starting at CRIC, he worked at the Manchester School of Management, UMIST, on research into the management of innovation. During this time he completed a doctorate on the relationship between innovation, demand and environmental sustainability. He also studied for an MSc in technology management at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at Sussex University.

Research Interests

Andrew's research combines economic, sociological and management science approaches to analyse the nature of innovation processes. In particular this research focuses on the organisation of knowledge production for innovation across public and private domains and on the relationship between innovation, demand and consumption. These issues have most recently been investigated through empirical studies of biotechnology, bioinformatics, health technologies, food and the market research industry, taking an international comparative perspective. In pursuit of this work Andrew has organised and undertaken field trips across the UK, in continental Europe, the USA and Brazil. He has obtained additional funds to support this research from the ESRC and DTI. Research on genomics, biotechnology and bioinformatics has been successfully used as a platform for organising several scenario and foresight workshops for the DTI and ESRC, engaging practitioners from industry, government and academia.
