I joined Manchester Business School in February 2011. I am a member of Manchester Institute of Innovation Research (MIoIR). My areas of research interest include: innovation policy, academic entrepreneurship, university-industry relationships, regional innovation systems, and industry engagement in research training.

Prior to joining MBS, I worked in research at European University Institute in Italy; and University of Bristol in the UK. I also worked as Assistant professor at CIRCLE (Centre for Innovation, Research and Competence in the Learning Economy) at Lund University in Sweden. Prior to that, I worked at the government research institute in Japan, focusing on higher education policy. I was involved in the OECD project studying regional contribution of higher education in South Korea and Canada.

I have PhD in Urban and Regional Studies from the University of Birmingham in England.

Research Interests

My areas of research interest include:

  • innovation policy, university-industry relationships;
  • the role of higher education in innovation systems and competence building;
  • multi-level governance and regionalisation of science and innovation;
  • industry engagement in reesarch training.
