Biography

Matthew Allen joined Manchester Business School in 2007. After obtaining his PhD from the University of Birmingham, he worked at Manchester Metropolitan University (2004-2007). Matthew also holds a master’s degree from the University of Oxford and a first degree from the University of East Anglia.

Research Interests

His research covers comparative employment relations, business systems, multinational corporations, employment relations and firm performance, and institutional theory. More speciifically, Matt's research focuses on institutional influences on firms' abilities to innovate. This often involves examining how ownership and control structures as well as human resource management poicies within firms shape innovation outcomes. Much, but not all, of his work analyses companies in renewable-energy industries.

Additional Information

Matthew contributes to the Managing Internationally across Business Systems on the MBA. He runs the International Organisational Change course on the MSc in Global Business Analysis. In addition, he contributes to the undergraduate Firms and Management in Comparative Perspective unit.
