Research Interests

Use of research evidence to inform health policy and practice; evidence synthesis; dissemination and knowledge transfer; implementation research methods; mass media reporting of health research.


Paul is a Research Fellow in the NIHR CLAHRC for Greater Manchester ( He previously worked for the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination, University of York where his research focussed on promoting the uptake of evidence to inform decision making in practice and policy settings.

He is currently leading an NIHR HS&DR funded study to evaluate whether access to an evidence briefing service can enhance research evidence use by commissioners in the North East of England ( This study builds on previous work undertaken as part of the TRiP-LaB theme of the NIHR CLAHRC for Leeds, York and Bradford, where he created an evidence briefing service responsive to the needs of NHS commissioners and senior managers in provider Trusts.

Paul is an Associate Editor of the journal Implementation Science.
