Dr Yanchao Li is Research Associate at Manchester Institute of Innovation Research. Her research interests include demand-side innovation policies (in particular public procurement of innovation), evaluation of innovation policies, innovation policies for emerging technologies including new energy, and innovation policies for catching-up.

Yanchao has been involved in various research projects in MIOIR including the ‘Understanding Public Procurement for Innovation’ (UNDERPINN) project, ‘Policies for Research and Innovation in Small Member States’ (ERA-PRISM) project, ‘Emerging Technologies, Trajectories and Implications of Next Generation Innovation Systems Development in China and Russia’ (part of the ‘Rising Powers’ project), and ‘Research Infrastructure for Research and Innovation Policy Studies’ (RISIS) project. She also served as a seminar leader for undergraduate courses ‘International Business Strategy’ and ‘International Management of Knowledge and Technology’.

Yanchao obtained her PhD degree in 'Innovation, Management and Policy' in 2013 from the University of Manchester. Prior to this, she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Master’s degree in electrical engineering specialized in wind energy and power electronics from Tsinghua University.
