1st Annual Simon Academy 2007
The Herbert Simon Institute, University of Manchester
18 - 22 June 2007
Knowledge about public policy developments and public management innovation is becoming increasingly global. New policies and improvements jump from country to country, at times with alarming speed.
This change to the way public policy is formed has been dubbed 'scanning globally and reinventing locally'. How far, how fast, how accurately, and with what consequences reform policies spread is an increasingly important question. How appropriate are reforms pioneered in OECD countries to developing and transitional states? In any case there's a great deal of variety in reform initiatives - which ones are useful and work?
- The Simon Academy aims to become a premier annual global forum for exchanging ideas between leading policy-makers, practitioners and academics about public policy and management reform
- The Simon Academy will provide a week of discussions, debates, networking opportunities and lectures from leading researchers and practitioners
- The focus of the Academy is you, the participants. It aims to provide a space in which new information can not only be exchanged but also generated from the creative interchange of ideas, opinions and hard evidence
- The Academy is designed so that national participants can join for individual (or more) days and international participants can get a full week of access to cutting edge ideas and practice
- This will not just be a week long event - it will continue with regular emails, discussions and other web-based events for 'alumni' of the Simon Academy
This is going to be the first of a world-class series of annual events for public policy and management.
