The Health Services Research Centre (HSRC) at Alliance Manchester Business School is to host one of the world’s most prestigious research conferences on healthcare organisation and management.
The announcement that AMBS is to stage the biannual 12th International Organizational Behaviour in Health Care (OBHC) conference in April 2020 was made this week at the conference of the Society For Studies in Organising Healthcare in Montreal.
Dr Roman Kislov, Senior Research Fellow at AMBS and chair of the OBHC 2020 organising committee, said the award was a huge honour for “the Business School, the University and Manchester”.
“This is a great achievement and a vindication of the strength of the multi-disciplinary research going on within the HSRC. This prestigious conference is a pivotal event in the calendar for social scientists involved in healthcare research across the world.”
The fact that the conference is in Manchester is extremely opportune given the ongoing devolution of health and social care funding to the Greater Manchester region. Indeed the theme of the conference - Managing healthcare organisations in challenging policy contexts - will specifically look at how organisation and management of healthcare may be affected by large-scale policy-driven transformation.
As Dr Kislov adds: “The conference theme reflects the pioneering role of Greater Manchester in implementing new arrangements for the provision of health and social care. Across the world there is an ongoing debate about the costs and benefits of integration, devolution and other forms of large-scale restructuring. At the same time it is clear that new solutions are urgently required due to constantly increasing demands, limited resources and public pressure to improve the provision of healthcare services.”
