Two of Britain’s most respected entrepreneurs shared their thoughts on the secret to building and maintaining successful businesses at an event hosted by MBS, in conjunction with PwC and The Sunday Times.
Peter Hargreaves CBE, co-founder of financial adviser Hargreaves Lansdown, and Jim Ratcliffe, founder of global chemicals giant Ineos, enthralled guests during an hour-long conversation on stage with Dominic O’Connell, Business Editor of The Sunday Times.
Detailing how they outsmarted their big business rivals and built billion-pound companies in the process, the duo talked candidly about their careers and what first motivated them to set up their own companies. They also discussed the key challenges that they faced in maintaining their market position today.
Hargreaves started his business from a spare bedroom with business partner Stephen Lansdown in 1981. After a career in private equity Ratcliffe founded Ineos in 1998, a business which has gone on to acquire assets from the likes of BASF, BP and ICI.
