A leading Canadian professor in strategic management addressed researchers and academics during a recent visit to Alliance MBS.
Trish Reay is Professor in Strategic Management and Organization at the University of Alberta School of Business where she teaches MBA and Bachelor of Commerce courses in organizational change, implementing public policy and family business.
During her seminar in Manchester she presented some of her new work investigating how a northern Canadian health authority is collaborating with communities in an effort to improve health. She also discussed her recent work on Mobilising Knowledge in Healthcare which looked at how health professionals and managers engage in innovation and organizational change.
The research specifically investigated how knowledge mobilisation can be facilitated within organizations by elaborating upon the concept of ‘space’ for organizational learning.
With her co-authors she studied how managers, physicians and other health professionals in ten primary healthcare innovation sites attempted to create and sustain space for learning as part of an initiative to improve primary healthcare. By ‘space’ they meant the social and relational context that develops and evolves as people interact and share ideas to create new ideas and knowledge.
Following the seminar Prof Reay, who is Editor-in-Chief of Organization Studies, held a ‘meet the editor’ session where members of the Health Services Research Centre (HSRC) research development network. She also held one-on-one sessions in AMBS with professors and researchers developing research papers and ideas for research collaborations.
