Students studying the first year Case Studies in Management module on Manchester Business School’s BSc Management degree, today heard from three experienced business professionals on assessing business opportunities.

As part of this year’s lecture programme, Course Co-ordinator – John Pal – arranged for three of his own business contacts to present to students to give an insight into real-life business issues.

Today’s presenters were:

•    Hicham Labiad is currently studying the final part of his MBA at MBS. He is an experienced IT Consultant and having worked in France for four years, he joined the MBA to widen his skills and knowledge.  He shared with the undergraduate students his experiences of working on assessing the market in the pipelines coating sector. Hicham holds a Master’s degree in Information Systems and Decision Making Aids from Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Informatique et d’Analyse des Systèmes in Morocco.

•    David Walters holds degrees in accounting from Newcastle and a Masters in Marketing from UMIST.  David’s experience spans roles at Kimberley Clark, Cussons, and he is the founder of both Blue-Chip Marketing and Strategic Advantage.  David is now the CEO of E-Metrixx.  David’s presentation covered the creative issues of developing a marketing campaign for Kellogg’s Special K brand.

•    Adam Walker’s experience spans operational roles at McDonald’s, John Menzies and Dixons Retail. The more recent stages of Adam’s career are as a Web Development Manager at Creative Internet and E-Commerce Director at Wardworth where he developed the e-commerce strategy for ladderstore.com. Adam has recently co-founded www.twicely.co.uk which is a unique marketplace for pre-owned women’s and childrenswear. Adam holds a bachelor’s degree in Organisational Theory and an MSc in Internet Retailing.

John commented: “This is the second year we have had a panel event. It allows the students to hear how some of the tools, techniques and approaches covered in their courses are used by practising managers in addressing real life business issues.”
