Inclusive growth key theme of Manchester conference

Academics from Alliance Manchester Business School are speaking at a major conference in Manchester next week.

The pro-Manchester Economics Conference on October 13 brings together private and public sector businesses, policymakers, politicians, economists and academics to debate the most pressing issues facing the city and the wider city region.

Professor Jill Rubery, Director of the recently launched Work and Equalities Institute, will be delivering a keynote address on whether Manchester can achieve economic prosperity and reduce poverty and inequality. While Anthony Rafferty, Senior Lecturer in Employment Studies at Alliance MBS, will also be taking part in a panel discussion on inclusive growth during the day.

Among the key themes being discussed at the conference this year will be: Greater Manchester and life after Brexit; the recently launched Greater Manchester Strategy and how it affects business; what sectors are driving the growth of the regional economy; the state of the housing market and ambitious targets for housebuilding in the region; and latest developments around Devo-Manc and the role of the newly elected Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham.
