We can now reveal details of the fantastic guest speakers, workshops and drop-in pods at the She’s The Business Event on 15 November 2017. The one-day drop-in event is hosted by Manchester Enterprise Centre in partnership with beauty brand Soap & Glory and aims to inspire and support women with great ideas.

Workshops
She’s Confident with Maggie Ford, Springrites
You will be introduced to the concept of presenting with confidence which is important in a range of situational factors, such as public speaking, meeting clients or pitching an idea. The session provides a range of practical exercises including:
- Present yourself with confidence
- Banish nervous tension
- Inspire trust in what you say
- Share your skills
Maggie Ford has had a career in theatre, television and radio which started as an award winning actor at RADA. She has developed from leading roles and innovative work as an actor to breaking new ground as a director for both theatre and screen.
She’s the Protector with Laura Etchells – University of Manchester Intellectual Property (UMIP) office
You will be introduced to the concept of Intellectual Property (IP). Attendees will be introduced to a range of skills and tools needed to protect ideas and inventions when thinking of creating a start-up business. The session will provide you with a brief overview of:
- What is Intellectual Property
- Why is it important to protect my ideas
- How do I go about protecting my ideas
- Where can I go to get help
Laura Etchells is Enterprise and Business Development Manager at UMIP, The University of Manchester’s Technology Transfer office. As part of the Enterprise Team, Laura manages the Innovation Optimiser Programme which empowers staff, academic and research student innovators from across the University to create start-up businesses.
She’s a Changemaker with Nickala Torkington – Flourish CIC
In this workshop attendees will be introduced to the concepts of starting a social enterprise and the relative challenges that this presents. The session provides you with an overview of:
- What methods to Changemakers use to run sustainable ventures how do these differ from “for private profit” organisations
- How you can draw inspiration to ‘Be the Change’ you see needed
- What support mechanisms are out there to support “Social Starters”
Nickala supports, innovates and resources social entrepreneurship, innovation and leadership and has worked in the social enterprise support sector for 15 years. She has directly coached and supported over 650 social entrepreneurs. An entrepreneur herself, she has designed, operationally developed and managed four social ventures: a health spa and wellbeing centre, a café and retail outlet, an event management company and a women’s development organisation.
She’s the Networker with Tracy Griffiths – The Business Network
In this participative workshop you will learn the easy way to network. Learn what it really is and how to become a successful networker. The session will provide participants with a brief overview of:
- What is Networking - really?
- Networking for the long term- Building trust, through listening, learning, helping, sharing.
- Asking quality questions to deepen connections
- Informal Vs Formal networking- where can you do “it”.
- The Power of Linked in and Social Media for good
Tracy launched her own business when she realised two children of school age and a senior role at Adidas was just not going to give her the infamous “work life balance” she wanted.
Over the last 10 years she has created a portfolio approach to her Business: Facilitating honest conversations in Organisations as a highly effective Cultural Coach and Leadership development facilitator; running a highly successful Business network group that meets once a month in Chester, that has over 100 active members; and in 2018 will return to her textile and creative roots and launch her Interior Styling Business, Vividha Style.
