Current MSc Quantitative Finance student Zainab Hassan talks about her experience of studying at Alliance MBS.
Why did you choose to study this Masters course at Alliance Manchester Business School?
Having a bachelor’s degree in finance, I chose the MSc Quantitative Finance course because I wanted to join a highly quantitative programme and learn how to implement my mathematical knowledge in the financial industry. I want to prepare for a career as a quantitative analyst or risk manager.
I chose Alliance MBS because it is amongst the most reputable business schools in the world.
What were you doing before your MSc?
I had just completed a one-year national service, working at Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.
What are your career plans after graduation?
I plan on taking the CFA Institute exams. However, my main goal is to apply and join the young professional program at the African development Bank after graduating.
What is the best thing about studying at Alliance MBS?
One of the best things for me is the Postgraduate Careers Service. They provide excellent guidance in terms of developing your CV and with job applications.
How much time do you spend in classes and in private study?
I am taking four units in the current semester and I spend 10 hours in classes per week. For private study, I allocate at least two hours per week for each course.
How would you describe your student experience so far?
My experiences thus far have been amazing. Most especially having a lot of activities to keep me engaged whether attending workshops, seminars or participating in clubs and societies. The University provides many platforms to build networks.
What’s the best thing about living in Manchester?
The people, Manchester is a very multi-cultural city. Everyone here is welcoming and friendly. Also, if you’re a Manchester United fan, it’s the football. You get the Old Trafford experience!
What advice would you give to those considering studying at Alliance MBS?
Studying at Alliance MBS is definitely an unforgettable experience. Be prepared to work hard. Time management, mental and social balance is key as some courses will get overwhelming.
