Venture Further award winner launches a new food business course for local people

A former Alliance MBS competition winner has launched Recipe for Success, a new food business training course for local people through her social enterprise 4Lunch.

University of Manchester alumna, Amy Win started 4Lunch as a project, applying for the School’s Venture Further competition, winning £2500 in 2013. After five years in business, Amy has launched a new course to inspire the next generation of food entrepreneurs.

Amy says that through her work at 4Lunch, she found a lot of culinary talent in the community and people who wanted to learn how they could start a food business from home.

“As someone without a business background, I relied on the support, generosity and knowledge of others to help me get started,” she explains. “This included being recognised for my social enterprise project in its very early stages by Alliance Manchester Business School through the Venture Further competition. It has always been fundamental to my work at 4Lunch to give opportunities to people whenever I can and keep the circle of learning going.”

Amy hopes that the Recipe for Success course will offer meaningful opportunities to people and improve access to enterprise and employability skills. Her key piece of advice to aspiring university social entrepreneurs is to volunteer in the local community: “You will get out of the student bubble, meet incredible people and be inspired by them.”

To promote the new course, Amy is also putting on a series of food business start up events  at various venues around Greater Manchester.

These events are open to anyone interested in starting a food-based project and is a chance to pick the brains of established food business owners.
