As December draws ever closer and with essay deadlines fast approaching, we spoke to five international masters students ahead of what has been an exciting first semester. We asked them how they have found being a student at Alliance Manchester Business School - and how they are finding student life in Manchester…
The International Feeling
Manchester has been voted as one of the world’s best international student cities. The diversity, inclusiveness and metropolitan feel have all contributed to the ranking. MSc Innovation Management & Entrepreneurship student, Gonzalo Castellanos Ramallo, commented: “Manchester is a city that combines the best of the old world with the advantages of modern life. I was impressed with how intercultural the city is.” The food and drink of the celebrated ‘Curry Mile’ is another contributing factor to Manchester’s international appeal. MSc Business Analysis and Strategic Management student, Tommaso Viaro agrees: “It is easy to meet friendly people from everywhere in the world and share splendid moments with them.”
Events and Music
As the birthplace of The Stone Roses, Oasis and Joy Division (plus many more) it is perhaps not surprising that many of the students who are new to Manchester mentioned the music scene as their favourite aspect of Manchester life. MSc Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship, Sven Grospitsch, said “the great music gigs are the best thing about living in Manchester”, whilst MSc International Business and Management student, Kelly Clement, believed her most interesting experience in Manchester was “attending a Thomas Rhett concert and being able to meet him and his band in a pub next to the venue.” Manchester is also home to some prestigious events, such as The Manchester International Festival, the Manchester Irish festival and the Manchester Mega Mela, as well as many more.
The Architecture
Part of Manchester’s character is its fusion of modern and vintage architecture, which makes for a stunning backdrop. Modern, Contemporary, Georgian, Roman and Gothic, Manchester has all of them. Home to the tallest building in the UK outside of London (The Beetham Tower) and the neo-gothic Town Hall, Manchester continues to impress visitors to the city. Kelly recalls how she “was really impressed with the architecture of not only the University but also within the city. I love how modern buildings are intertwined with the old historical architecture, it really gives the city character.”
Professionalism of Staff
We are proud of our professionalism and also our reputation as a Business School at the forefront of research and innovation and the warmth and helpfulness of the staff at Alliance MBS was highlighted by our student interviewees. MSc Accounting and Finance student, Marleen Santonius, commented that “I would highly recommend studying at Alliance MBS, the School really supports their students and living in Manchester is amazing!”
Last But Not Least…
The one thing that our students seem to agree on was that the weather certainly wasn’t their favourite part about the City. The rain is the one thing that we can’t change but it is surely part of the Manchester charm.
