Grades AAA. General Studies is normally accepted if one of four A-levels passed in the same sitting. Language subjects will be considered on an individual basis. Critical Thinking and Use of Mathematics are not accepted.


3 AS-levels accepted in place of 1 A-Level if all taken in Year 13

Unit grade information

The University of Manchester welcomes the provision of unit information where available.  Like all other information provided by applicants this may be taken into consideration when assessing your application.  Unit grades will not normally form part of an offer conditions.


GCSE at Grade A in Maths (you will require a Grade 7 in the newly reformed GCSEs in England) plus GCSE at Grade B in English Language (you will require a Grade 6 in the newly reformed GCSEs in England). Applied Maths e.g. WJEC Mathematics - Numeracy is not accepted.

International Baccalaureate

35 points overall with 6,6,6 in Higher Level subjects plus no less than 6 for Standard Level Maths and 5 for Standard Level English / English Language & Literature. Maths Studies and English Literature are not accepted.

English language test validity

Some English language test results are only valid for two years. Your English language test report must be valid on the start date of the course.

Work-related experience is not essential but can provide useful evidence of your team-working skills and ability to take responsibility. Relevant work experience can provide evidence of interest in and commitment to the subject.
