A virtual welcome for our latest Global MBA intake

The Covid-19 pandemic is having a significant global impact and affecting many aspects of our lives. We are delighted that our Global MBA July intake went ahead successfully at this challenging time.

The welfare of our students is our priority so we implemented some changes to the first semester. The induction would normally take place face-to-face, but this time the MBA kicked off with a one-day online induction that was attended by over 350 students from 50 countries.

There were three welcome and induction events, which grouped together students from centres with similar time zones, as well as academic malpractice sessions and drop-in Q&A events for all of the different centres. There were also ‘local’ welcome events organised by each centre, where students could learn more about the support staff and the careers service.

Students usually attend face-to-face workshops for the ‘Leading & Managing in a Global Environment’ and ‘Business Simulation Project’ courses alongside the induction. To provide flexibility and choice, they had the option to attend these workshops virtually or to delay them until the next semester.

Professors facilitated the online workshop in groups of 20 to 30 students. Although delivered online, the virtual environment was engaging and interactive, building on our expertise of the Manchester Method and blended-learning methodology. The virtual workshops offered a similar amount of time with professors and peers and involved groupwork.
