If you need funding for your Masters course, you should research your options as soon as possible.

Funding opportunities

There are a number of funding options for Masters courses and these will vary depending on whether you’re a student from the UK, EU or an international student from outside the EU.

Postgraduate loan

The UK Government has confirmed that Postgraduate Loans will be offered to students starting a masters course in the 2017/18 academic year. If you are eligible, non means-tested loans of up to £10,280 will be available for use towards course and living costs.

Manchester Alumni Scholarship Scheme

The Scholarship is offered to students and alumni of The University of Manchester enrolling on one of the Business School's taught Masters courses in September 2017. To reward academic merit, we give a £3,000 award to those achieving a first class honours degree and £1,000 for an upper second class honours (2:1) degree. The award is deducted from the course tuition fee at registration.

Manchester Masters Bursary

The University of Manchester is offering 100 bursaries for Masters students, each worth £3,000 in funding, to UK and EU students starting taught or research Masters courses in September 2017.  The bursaries are aimed at widening access to Masters courses for students from underrepresented groups.  The deadline is Wednesday, 31 May 2017.

Masters scholarships for Accounting and Finance programmes for UK/EU students 2017 entry

New for 2017 entry – we are delighted to be able to offer five scholarships available across the four Accounting and Finance programmes with a value of £10,000 towards the cost of the tuition fee.  The scholarships will be awarded in line with our scholarship deadlines so early application is advisable.

All UK/EU applicants who hold an offer of a place to study on one of the programmes below:

  • MSc Accounting
  • MSc Accounting and Finance
  • MSc Finance
  • MSc Quantitative Finance

All applicants who hold an offer will automatically be considered for a scholarship. There is no scholarship application process.

Decisions will be made on merit and not financial need. Scholarships will be awarded to applicants who:

  • Are able to demonstrate excellent academic performance
  • Are on track to obtain, or who have graduated with a 2:1 or 1st UK undergraduate degree or overseas equivalent
  • Have previously studied at a University with a strong academic reputation and ranking
  • Have the potential to contribute and enrich all aspects of the Masters programme and the diverse academic and cultural profile of the Masters class.

Scholarships will be awarded in line with our selection deadlines.

Applicants who have been successfully awarded a scholarship will therefore be contacted on or before their selection deadline via email. If you have not received a scholarship award by your initial deadline, you may still be considered in the next selection round.

Masters scholarships for US residents 2017 entry

Five scholarships are available across all our Masters courses, with a value of £10,000 towards the tuition fee. The scholarships are available on a rolling basis so make sure you apply early.

You are eligible if you are a US resident with an offer to study on one of our Masters programmes.

There is no scholarship application process. If you are eligible you will be automatically considered.

Decisions are made on merit rather than financial and are awarded to applicants who:

  • Are able to demonstrate excellent academic performance
  • Are on track to obtain, or who have graduated with, a minimum high 2.1 or 1st UK undergraduate degree or overseas equivalent.
  • Have previously studied at a University with a strong academic reputation and ranking.
  • Have the potential to contribute and enrich all aspects of the Masters programme and the diverse academic and cultural profile of the Masters class

Scholarships are awarded from January 2017. If you have been successful you will be contacted within four weeks of your offer being made. Only successful candidates will be contacted.

Masters scholarships for Vietnam residents 2017 entry

Two scholarships are available across all our Masters courses, with a value of £10,000 towards the tuition fee. The scholarships are available on a rolling basis so make sure you apply early.

You are eligible if you are a Vietnam resident with an offer to study on one of our Masters programmes.

There is no scholarship application process. If you are eligible you will be automatically considered.

Decisions are made on merit rather than financial need and are awarded to applicants who:

  • Are able to demonstrate excellent academic performance
  • Are on track to obtain, or who have graduated with, a minimum high 2.1 or 1st UK undergraduate degree or overseas equivalent
  • Have previously studied at a University with a strong academic reputation and ranking.
  • Have the potential to contribute and enrich all aspects of the Masters programme and the diverse academic and cultural profile of the Masters class

Masters scholarships for UK/EU/international students 2017 entry

These scholarships are currently under review and details will be announced soon.

GREAT Britain Scholarship for India 2017 entry

We have previously offered one scholarship, in partnership with the British Council, to applicants from India. This is currently under review for September 2017 entry and details will be announced soon.

You are eligible if you are an Indian applicant.

There is no scholarship application process. If you are eligible you will be automatically considered.

Decisions are made on academic merit and we look for excellent grades from a highly ranked institution.

You need to apply by the end of April 2017 to be considered.

You will be notified by the end of June 2017 if you are successful.

External awards

These scholarships are available to international students for 2017 entry.

If you receive an external scholarship award or postgraduate loan which only covers part of your tuition fee, you will still be considered for an Alliance MBS scholarship.

For applicants from the USA only and includes tuition and living expenses. Applications for September 2017 are now closed.
