AMBS Undergraduate Societies

(1) Accounting Society

The Accounting Society of Manchester, is a student-run organisation that strives to enhance employability and build links between students and employers. Aside from a focus on careers, they also host social events, such as dinners. Sponsored by CPA Australia, the society also run Business Case Competitions in association with Bright Futures, webinars and employer insight events to help students find out more about the assessment centre experience and kick-starting a career in accountancy.

(2) IBFE Society

IBFE society started out as an academic society for IBFE students, but now they are open to anyone and everyone from the University.

They have regular social events, heading out to eat and drink at some of the most fun bars and restaurants in the city. They also have a focus on careers - holding workshops to support their members’ future career paths. Events this year have included a work placement panel session where final year students shared their advice and experiences.

(3) AISEC

Open to members across the University, AIESEC is a global platform for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential. Together with partner organizations, AIESEC facilitates a network of cross-cultural exchanges in the form of volunteering experiences and professional internships.

The society is independent and not-for-profit, run by students and recent graduates of institutions of higher education. If you are interested in world issues, leadership and management, then this is the place for you to meet like-minded people.

(4) MUTIS

MUTIS (Manchester University Trading and Investment Society) is one of the largest business societies at the University of Manchester, with almost 5,000 members. The society’s focus on careers means it has supported its members in securing highly competitive summer internships at pre-eminent financial institutions – an opportunity which can lead to an offer of a graduate position.

In addition to weekly meetings, they have a busy calendar of keynote speakers and academics who share insights and opinions on the financial industry and regular talks by society members that outline the fundamentals of trading and investing. CV workshops and their recent first ever Women in Finance Conference are some of their highlights from the past year.

(5) Bright Futures

Bright Futures Society is an industry-leading consultancy focused on improving graduate employability. The society organizes a lot of unique and useful events such as mock assessment centres, interviews, presentations, workshops, trainings, career insights and many others, which give a deeper insight into companies’ employability criteria to students.

The society aims to create a better relationship between companies and students and improve students’ network and employability. Bright Futures Society works closely with large recruiters such as Barclays, Ernst & Young, Accenture, Deloitte, KPMG, RBS, TESCO, PwC, Siemens, Vodafone, Teach First, etc.

(6) ENACTUS

ENACTUS is an international non-profit organization that encourages student entrepreneurship with a truly social purpose. The Masood Enterprise Centre is a proud supporter of the ENACTUS Manchester team which is one of the largest and most active in the UK. The team has received numerous awards and grants over the years for its enterprise projects in Greater Manchester and around the world.

(7) ManSoc – Management Society

ManSoc aim to improve employability by connecting students with prospective employers. This enables students to learn about workplace roles and graduate positions, and what it’s like working for these desirable companies.

One of the largest societies at AMBS, they also host a series of fun social events throughout the year for members to connect with each other.

(8) AMBS International Programmes Society

With over 120 student members across Alliance MBS, across all years, the International Business Programmes Society is for all IM/IMABS students as well as all incoming exchange students studying abroad at Manchester Business School.

Social, cultural and networking events such as a Junkyard Golf networking event, bowling and a successful Buddy scheme pairing a local student with an exchange student, makes sure everyone feels even more at home in Manchester.

(9) ITMBS (The IT Management for Business Society)

This society is a community for ITMB students and empowers them to fulfil their potential. Already a very sociable degree, they also organize excursions, socials and sports events for society members.

The society partners with corporate sponsors to provide students with opportunities to network with placement and graduate employers. The society is currently sponsored by Accenture. Sponsors also run CV and skills sessions for students to improve their employability.

(10) SOFAB – Society of Finance and Business

SOFAB is a student-run non-profit organisation open to all students. In partnership with large corporations and Alliance MBS, they offer an insight into the business world for their members to start building their careers through networking, training and work experience.

Events and opportunities they provide include: skills development sessions with experts in their field, corporate presentations and networking events, interview and CV workshop, guest speakers, business games and collaborative social events with other societies.

In their own words: “our goal is to bring together ambitious students who aspire for success and aid them in developing the skills necessary to thrive in the current economic climate. SOFAB currently has 700 active members. Our aim is to organise events that will inform our members not just how to get offered an internship or placement, but how to succeed once in that position.”

(11) AMBS Rugby

AMBS Rugby Society is a campus team who play regularly against other faculties in a competitive league styled competition. The team hold weekly training sessions on the artificial pitches at the Armitage Centre (Fallowfield). External coaches run these sessions, who can help both experienced and inexperienced rugby players. The team is really social, and experience is not necessary to join.

(12) AMBS Netball

Alliance Manchester Business School’s official netball team hold one training session and one match per week. The team is fun, sociable and open to all. In their own words, “We aim to make this a way for people to meet new friends with a love from sport and being social!”

(13) AMBS Football Society

The AMBS 11-aside football team play every Wednesday afternoon, as well as some Saturday fixtures, in the Campus Sport Manchester leagues and cup, playing against other schools and societies across the University. The team also trains once a week in preparation for matches.

The team has a great squad of players, across all year groups at AMBS, and will be striving for promotion again this season. Joining the team is an excellent opportunity to meet new people and is a great way to take a break from studies.
