A highly cited and award-winning academic has been appointed as a Professor of International Business at Alliance Manchester Business School.
Peter Buckley OBE was a founding Director of the Centre for International Business at the University of Leeds, and today is a Fellow of numerous academies including the Academy of International Business, the British Academy of Management, the Royal Society of Arts, the European International Business Academy, and the Academy of Social Sciences.
He was made an OBE in 2012 for services to higher education, international business and research.
Peter has published more than 250 refereed articles and 28 books (and edited 20 more) that have had almost 56,000 Google citations, while during his career he has also carried out consultancy assignments for central government, local government, international bodies (including UNCTAD) and leading companies.
Professor Buckley will join Alliance Manchester Business School on 1 August 2023.
He said: “I am looking forward to joining the vibrant International Business research community at AMBS. I hope that my skills and knowledge can combine with the research team in Manchester to enhance the theory, practice and policy of international business to help to promote global welfare”
Research interests
Peter’s current research interests include the theory of multinationals, the governance of global value chains and their relevance to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the rise of multinationals from emerging markets.
Other areas include international business policy, and in particular the role of business as a force for good in terms of meeting the grand challenges of climate change, global mobility, poverty and inequality.
He has also studied the role of the UN’s SDGs themselves as guides for policy, and the success and failure of multinationals in helping achieve these targets.
