Having been voted the top UK city to live recently (The Economist's Global Liveability Index 2018), Manchester is undoubtedly an exciting place to live. It closely follows our UK capital in terms of the variety of culture, nightlife, history and entertainment on offer, but life in Manchester is on average 35% cheaper than London!

Jacob Roberts, USA, MSc International Business and Management, Class of 2020:
“Manchester’s reputation precedes it, but with every bar or club, there is a handful of other activities. During welcome week I was able to find societies for a number of things I was interested in including learning a language, basketball, an entrepreneurship group, international society and a chance to volunteer with homeless dogs.
“In addition, there are many things to do in the city. During the first month, I went to a musical at the Palace Theatre, tried so much new food, and visited the stunning John Rylands Library. I’m still finding new places to study in the Northern Quarter where they have amazing cafes like Foundation Coffee House.
“I highly encourage you to find new places to eat around the city when you get to Manchester. Ask around and look for blogs on good food. It seems like some of the best places to eat are hidden right under your nose. With all the beautiful brick buildings sometimes it’s hard to tell if you’re walking into a restaurant or a factory. Don’t be afraid to walk in, you just might find yourself dancing the night away with the entire Greek kitchen staff at Bouzouki or eating ten pieces of Korean chicken at Chimaek (though I don’t recommend doing both in one night).”

“Manchester is beautiful! To make the most of the city, I recommend getting a bus pass. The city centre is an amazing place for shopping, eating and partying. Places to visit are Salford Quays and Old Trafford for all Manchester United fans.
“Around Manchester, there are amazing cities and places to visit on a weekend. Liverpool, The Lake District and The Peak District are a few places I’ve visited and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed them!”

“There are several fine museums the city centre has to offer: choose the Manchester Art Gallery if you like art, choose the Museum of Science and Industry if you like machines and trains or choose the People’s History Museum if you are a history nerd.
“Take a break from museum strolling by having lunch at one of the many English pubs that can be found around the Northern Quarter. My suggestion would be the Bay Horse Tavern where they have awesome burgers. While you select your favourite place, make sure to look at the walls because they are covered with the finest street art you will see in England.
“Why not go clubbing to one of the Deansgate clubs? Or if you fancy a more unique plan, go and play mini-golf at Junkyard Golf Club (mini-golf + beers, what could go wrong?).”
