The aim of the new course is to equip young professionals with a deep understanding of the tasks finance professionals undertake, and the skills required for a successful career in finance.

Professor Fiona Devine, Head of Alliance Manchester Business School noted in her speech during the launch ceremony that the development of technology is constantly subverting our way of learning. More and more professionals are paying attention to innovation in education which is also called Education 4.0. In fact, Alliance Manchester Business School was a pioneer in creating a flexible, blended learning Global MBA programme for professionals around the globe: ensuring that they could continue with their career paths while equipping them with world-class business education from The University of Manchester.

The flexible, part-time Msc Financial Management from Alliance Manchester Business School will offer the same opportunity. It will enable ambitious professionals in China to achieve career progression, or even a career transformation into the finance industry.

To begin, Sherry Fu, Founding Director of the University of Manchester China Centre congratulated graduates from the Manchester Global MBA programme and reviewed the development of the China Centre. She said: "During the past 11 years, The University of Manchester China Centre has helped more than 1,800 talented professionals achieve tremendous career growth through our part-time courses. Today, we are offering more diverse opportunities for those professionals in China. The part-time MSc Financial Management  will undoubtedly create career progression opportunities for professionals who are interested in or engaged in financial management.”

Professor Arif Khurshed, MSc Financial Management Course Director and Professor of Finance, Alliance Manchester Business School, introduced the academic resources at The University of Manchester as well as the highlights and characteristics of this new MSc course. He then further explained how the blended learning teaching method would benefit working professionals who are looking to enhance their expertise.

The MSc in Financial Management will take advantage of the University's cutting-edge online learning to overcome time and geographical restrictions. Professor Khurshed shared his excitement by saying, ”The University of Manchester is excited to offer a highly flexible part-time Master’s course in Financial Management which allows students to study online and also enjoy the benefit of face-to-face interactions, with academics and peers from around the globe. Unlike many finance-based courses and qualifications, there are no exams which often deters students from studying finance altogether. We want to give students the chance to complete practice-based assessments, therefore removing any pressure and anxiety around exams."

During the two years of study, there will be 6 days of intensive face-to-face interactions every semester, so that students get a chance to meet professors and mingle with professionals from different backgrounds. Professor Khurshed said, "The course offers a great opportunity to network with and learn from like-minded peers in different industry sectors. Networking with each other provides a remarkable opportunity to build global relationships, which can be a real career advantage.”

Professor Khurshed also mentioned a special funding scheme with 15% discount for UoM alumni. This is designed to encourage our alumni to further broaden their horizons and have more career opportunities.

As the pioneer in online and blended education, The University of Manchester is expanding its expertise and creating more study opportunities for working professionals by offering part-time courses such as MSc Education Leadership, MSc International Fashion Marketing, plus more to be announced soon. The University aims to meet people’s need in terms of lifetime learning and preparing professionals from all backgrounds for greater success in this dynamic world.
